I'm taking a look at co-branding relationships between QSRs (a.k.a. quick service restaurants) and major American brands. Some recent examples include Oreo pairing with Dairy Queen on those Blizzard shakes, McDonald's teaming with Dannon's Danimals in its kids meals, and Burger King co-branding with Kraft by prominently using Kraft mayonnaise on its burgers. I'm sure there are other examples. These are just the ones that come to mind. I'm looking for experts who have any comments/insights/musings on this "trend" (I use quotations because I'm not sure if it's really a trend...is it?). Why are chains creating these co-branding relationships? Why are companies such as Kraft and Nabisco so in to it? Have you seen any numbers/statistics in this area that reveal growth in these co-branding relationships? Deadline: 9/5/02

I'm working on a story about the order in which entrepreneurs should take
care of the basics of starting a business. (For example, should they hire
their accountant or their lawyer first? It's a simple question that could
be daunting to a beginning entrepreneur.) It seems like taking care of the
basics in the wrong order can lead to problems. So is there an order
entrepreneurs should follow? Are there dangers in ignoring this order
before the business even gets off the ground? And are there ways to keep
things low-cost in the process? I'm seeking experts and two to three
start-up entrepreneurs who can talk about the order they followed (or in
hindsight, should have followed) in starting their companies. I'll need to conduct
these interviews by 9/20/02. Contact me directly for more info. Thanks.

I'm working on a piece -- and hence looking for sources -- regarding California's impending family leave law.
If you're bored here's an interesting little article posted today on CNN about the reasons behind the recent slowing in consumer spending:

I'm researching the dollar store industry. Does anyone have any good statistics on segment growth in 2002 and projections for 2003? Thanks.

This week, I'm getting started on a story about disease management/preventive care programs in the small business workplace. I'm seeking entrepreneurs of young companies who have set one of these programs up within the last few years and are willing to talk about both the benefits and the challenges. Is this you?
