My Archives: January 2004
Thursday, January 15, 2004
Yes, I'm still alive. (Well, if you're here because you read one of my stories published this month, you already know that.) Last year was a whirlwind. I looked up, and it was January; the next time I looked up, it was January...2004. My new year's resolution is to be a better blogger, keeping people updated on stories I'm working on, sources I'm looking for and a few random links along the way that I find amusing or interesting in some way. And, to keep my opinions about ACC basketball to myself. It will be difficult, but I'm strong.
One of my articles was posted front and center on MSN.com the other day, and I got a variety of responses to it ranging from the very nice ("keep up the good work!" and "I learned a lot, thanks!") to a more negative, "you suck" vibe ("good going, slick...calabasas agogo" --- if anyone knows that that means, please drop me an email --- to "next time, you should try to think of how your stories make unemployed people feel"). It goes to show that even when you think you're being fair and balanced, there's always someone who will see things differently. It goes along with the job. Well, at least I know people are reading my stories.
So what am I working on? Well, I'm always working on a few things. Right now, I'm finishing up stories for which I'm set for sources. So I'll be back, I hope soon, with new assignments to tell you about. Otherwise, I'm working on my first book proposal, which I hope to start pitching later this year.
Now to the interesting links portion of the program. Here's one: Members of the glamourous Hollywood A-list evidently want to trade in their Guccis and double skinny mochas for sweatpants and Maxwell House: Actor Sean Penn is working as a freelance journalist for the San Francisco Chronicle, covering the Iraq War. More tomorrow...
